Memo to Ammo Makers from the CBD: Oppose the Sportsmen’s Act of 2012 (Wait, what?)

It is an Alice in Wonderland through the looking glass moment we could not have predicted.

The Center for Biological Diversity (CBD), which is leading the effort to force the federal Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) to ban traditional ammunition, has been contacting ammunition manufacturers by email asking them to oppose the Sportsmen’s Act of 2012 (S.3525) – a bipartisan package of measures that among other things would stop the CBD’s effort to ban traditional ammunition.

Starting off by misnaming S.3525 the “Sportsmen’s Heritage Act”, CBD warns ammo makers that the bill “may very well cut into your sales of non-lead ammunition over the next decade.” These companies do make alternative ammunition for those who want it, of course, but 95 percent of what is sold is of the traditional kind. So, ammunition makers are going to support – not oppose – S.3525 because it stops the CBD-led crusade to ban traditional ammo that would drive up costs, cause massive shortages and kill conservation funding derived from the federal excise tax paid on the very ammunition the CDC wants to ban.

The Centers for Disease Control tell us that there is no evidence of harm to humans from use of traditional ammunition in hunting. Nor is there any good science to support an assessment of a negative impact on wildlife populations.

The Senate returns to Washington on Nov. 13 for its lame duck session and a vote on the Sportsmen’s Act has been promised. Please be sure to call your U.S. senators at 202-224-3121 and tell them to support S.3525!

The CBD can go to hell! More neophyte, knee-jerk, California-minded thinking where the liberals believe they can dictate all policies. If the Mfgs can make the cintered or solid no-lead alloy projectiles as cheap or cheaper than traditional lead/lead-core bullets with equal ballisic results…send the American sportsmen & women the empirical evidence and we’ll give them run. Otherwise leave or guns and ammunition completely alone.

These are the same people who have a petition to force the Sportsman’s Channel to remove Own Your Own Hunting Adventures from television due to the wolf hunting episodes.

You are always the same – kill kill kill. You do not even get the lead out. You are being exposed for the environmental catastrophe that you are. You have killed so much of our wildlife that you now want to gut the Wilderness Act which protected about 5% of wild native nature in this country, intact – protected it from your farming for killing “game animals” by destroying “trophy animals” to destroy entire ecosystems in league with ranchers who kill out all wildlife, including wolves, cougars, bears, prairie dogs, and desertify our public lands leased to them for pennies on the dollar – subsidizing the massive destruction of aquifers and dertifiying our landscapes. In Wisconsin alone, over a million songbirds die from lead shot – and you richies who claim to pay for everything cannot afford to buy the many alternative ammos? Pathetic. The public is awakening. Hopefully they awaken to realize that you are destroying the web of life and natural world we depend on to survive. Your obsession with killing is perverse. Serial killers who just cannot get enough grinning pictures over corpses. I am doing my part, writing a pro bono wildlife LIVING wildlife column online. We are organizing for a first time democracy in our wildlife and public lands management. But you do not believe in democracy, do you – or wildlife agencies would be structured on general public funding – not killing licenses. Give us a hundred years of only saving licenses to save what we can. We will not live on a dead planet just looking at your remnants of taxidermied dead possession of former life, Wake up. You have destroyed quail across the entire country. Cougars are gone. Bobcats gone. Sharp-tailed grouse gone. Do you really want this planet just to be private canned hunts where tame wildlife are thrown out for you to shoot?

Wow! Patricia, you have obviously been emotionally manipulated to come up with a rant like that! All wildlife must be managed not just prey species. You can’t just turn Wolves loose and let them have at it without some sort of control.

You make many accusations and I would like to see proof to back them up. What is your source for a million songbirds dead from lead shot? Cougars ,bobcats, and grouse gone?…where does that come from? Give us some proof or the world will only see you as another whacko bunny humper crackpot!

Read carefully, Patricia’s rant, it a small window into the mindset of the rabid anti-hunting, anti-human politicly active front we face.
